The National Criminal Investigation Service, in Beira, presented Thursday (04) to the press a helper and driver, indicted in the crime of customs misappropriation of 30 tons of fertilizer from the company Nabial, destined for the neighboring country Malawi.

The defendants confess their participation in the crime and reveal that they intended to sell fertilizer in the Dondo district. An illicit business that would bring more than 300,000 meticais into the pockets of the accused.

SERNIC’s Spokesman in Sofala, Alfeu Sitoe, said that a procedural record against the accused had already been drawn up, hoping that they would be held criminally responsible for the customs diversion.

It should be noted that Sofala Province has been the focus of this type of customs crimes by long haul truck drivers, leaving transport companies in incalculable losses.
